Pre stage 1

Information event

Information events are another great way to learn more about adoption and the children who need adoptive families in Kent. Events are held in Maidstone once a month. There will be a formal presentation and you'll hear from adoptive parents about their experiences and find out more about the application process. Our adoption staff will be on hand to answer any questions you might have and to tell you more about the support and training available. You'll find out about some of the children in our care who need adoptive parents and what the next steps are if you decide that adoption might be right for you.

Initial home visit

If you decide that adoption is right for you, the next step is to arrange for one of our adoption social workers to visit you at home and provide you with all the information you need about the challenges of adoption. This will help you to decide whether you wish to proceed and whether the timing of your application is right. The social worker carrying out the visit will ask you about your life and your home, as well as discussing any factors that may prevent you from being able to adopt. At this point, they will also help you identify any tasks you may need to complete before proceeding.

You can book the home visit at the end of the information event or at a later date. We aim to visit you within 10 working days of your request for an appointment, depending on your availability.

Registration of interest

If the home visit is a success and you decide that adoption is right for you, then you'll be invited to submit your Registration of Interest (ROI) and begin Stage 1.
